Dream # 1

30/05/09

UG II classroom, Jadavpur University. Contemporary Drama exam on. I enter the room quite late. The paper is very weird. We have to answer six questions of five marks each. There are a lot of questions to choose from, but most of them were not taught. They are very difficult names that I cannot even pronounce. There is a boy who looks at me, and nods his head. He is Prayag. But he looks like Sion. I look round. Somehow, I do not feel like writing. I don't know most of the stuff. But I know that something very interesting is happening elsewhere. After writing the first answer, I get out of the classroom, and go downstairs. The ground looks like the basketball ground in AG. Dibbo and Modhura are playing basketball. But suddenly, Dibbo comes to me with a hnaari of momo. It costs fifteen rupees only. But the momos are immersed in a huge hnaari that contains shinni. This is Dibbo and Modhura's lunch. I steal three momos. But then I realise that I have an exam to write. When I start climbing the stairs, I hear a wail. Modhura is crying, wailing, shouting just because I have eaten her momos. I go to her and offer to buy her another hnaari of momos immersed in shinni. She refuses. Then she recovers, and says that it is like catharsis, the wailing. Then she asks me to go ahead and write my exam. I enter the classroom again. This time, when I look at my paper, I see that Jijo has written one of my answers. But I get upset because it is in his handwriting. I know that Lal will understand. He says it doesn't matter. Answers are answers. I get out of the room again. This is because I must see what happened to Modhura. I go down and see Dibbo and Modhura feeding momos dipped in shinni to a middle aged man who looks like Mintu Dutta. He is crying. He is not a Trinamool supporter. But nobody believes him. Modhura suddenly does not want to give him any more momos. The man starts wailing again. He repeats that he is not from Trinamool. I am not interested. And anyway I am awfully late. I have to complete half the paper in five minutes. The last question is one that I know. It says, Write a short note on what Wriddhayan wrote. I know this one. I write that Wriddhayan was standing in front of Mayavati. He saw a cow, which was actually Mayavati. And then I write about the cow I will eat. But that cow is not Wriddhayan's cow. Cows are very complicated. Lal comes and says, 'Time'. I refuse. Because I still need to write some more on why Mayavati is not my cow. Everybody goes away. I sit alone in the classroom and resolutely write about Wriddhayan's cow. Then I give up the paper. I come downstairs and see that the whole class is playing basketball. I know they are all just playing for the momos.

There was more, but I cannot remember.
